BOX SCORE

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. –
The Nova Southeastern volleyball team (4-26, 1-13 SSC) fell in straight sets on Saturday to Eckerd (21-7, 12-2 SSC), 25-15, 25-14, 25-14.

Samantha High (Jr., Naples, Fla.) led NSU with seven kills and a shot percentage on Saturday of .417. Right behind her was Tory Njardvik (Fr., Livingston, Mont.) with six kills, and Sydney Cook (Fr., Miami, Fla.) with five. Kristina Eric (Jr., Sokolac, Bosnia and Herzegovina) had 19 assists, and Sarah Shifflett (So., Boynton Beach, Fla.) led the Sharks with eight digs, just ahead of Cook’s six.

Eckerd started out with big leads in each of the first two sets. In the opener, it was a  5-0 advantage, including three aces, that forced an NSU timeout. It eventually became a 14-5 lead, before the Sharks battled back to cut it to 16-10. But that was as close as the team would get in a 25-15 first set.

In the second,  Eckerd took a lead of 5-1, but the Sharks had a 4-2 run to cut it a two-point match at 7-5. It stayed within striking distance until the Tritons put together a 6-3 stretch to put the lead in double digits, and closed out with the final three points in a 25-14 decision.

The third set ended at that exact same margin, though it was close up until the very end. The Sharks were within four points as late as 17-13, putting together four straight points to get to that mark. Eckerd, the second-ranked team in the South Region, took control by ending the set and match on an 8-1 run.

This next weekend marks the last two matches of the season for the team, with both taking place at the NSU Arena in the Don Taft University Center. On Friday, Nov. 16, the Sharks host Saint Leo at 7 p.m., and the following day, it’s Florida Southern at 6 p.m.
